Expected Release 20th November 2026
Electric, fierce and unapologetic, Show Teeth, the album from Wiltshire-based rock and roll band Sweet Giant, is a powerful debut that arrives to tell us that guitar bands are back and better than they've ever been. A journey into slacker rock, garage folk and guitar-driven power, Sweet Giant holds the touchstones of Kurt Vile's disarming witticism, Courtney Barnett's conversational vocal projections, as well as Wednesday's distorted energy. Following the release of singles 'Changing Shape' and 'Waiting for My Man' Sweet Giant spent the last 2 years embarking on multiple UK & EU tours and Festival slots, Including support for ASH, Black Foxxes and Ren (Harvieu) & Romeo (Stodart), Sweet Giant is a leading force of the growing new-wave folk movement emerging from the South West.
The album - recorded both live with producer Gus White (Maddie Ashman, Ann Liu Cannon) in his residential Wiltshire studio, and self- produced in the band's own London studio - it's the product of a group of musicians who've expertly honed their sound and songwriting on the live circuit. Tracking the album live holds that energy from start to fnish, but really it's the fact this particular collaboration of musicians have been gigging in London and around the UK together in various iterations for the best part of a decade - and in particular the musical chemistry between founding members Annie and Nick who have been playing together since their school years. It's rare that four musicians know each other's playing so well that a studio album sounds like a live show.
The songs are brilliantly restless, luminous and unpredictable, held together by melodies that linger long after the tracks finish. At the centre is Annie Needham, whose guitar playing is breathtaking in its tone - in both its force and restraint. She doesn't simply play guitar, she tells stories with it, pushing the instrument to its
emotional limits. The album's highlights include opening track 'Horseshoe', a catchy and confessional song about unwanted love, Annie's twangy guitar conversing with Robert's transcendent solos .'Mess' is a song of our times, carrying the energy of the chaos in the world through Marco Briatore's (Tucker Zimmerman, Mega Bog) Motorik drums and bolstering Needham's progressively feral vocal delivery. 'Tumbling Towers' provides a moment of refection through Annie's intimate - and rare - acoustic guitar moment supported by Nick's melodic and intentional bass playing. 'Delilah's dreamy synth takes you on a trip into anthemic chorus and untamed instrumental, finally landing on closing track 'Long Day' - an honest plea, "I made a fool of myself, but I meant it".
Sweet Giant have made a record that feels timeless without looking backwards. It takes us to sun-filled road trips of 1970s California, but reminds us rock and roll isn't a relic to be rediscovered - it lives in Sweet Giant. The band has the power to shake the floor, to fill a room full of strangers, and to leave us believing that guitar music can still unite us.
