Instores and Outstores

We've run album release promotional events with artists here at SK for more than twenty years. They take place in the shop itself or at a small selection of venues in town and further afield in Wiltshire.

What is an Instore?

An instore is a promotional appearance from an artist, usually in the form of a stripped-back performance which takes place in the shop itself, most often followed by a chance to meet the artists/album signing. Instore performances tend to range from a half-hour to 40ish minutes.

Obviously, there's a limit to how many people we can accommodate in the shop, so please RSVP to the shop,. Entry to instores can be guaranteed by pre-ordering the album. For certain events this may be an entry requirement, please see the relevant event page for more details. We'll have a door list for entry if an album purchase is stipulated, so please have your order number/confirmation email to hand.

What is an Outstore?

An outstore is, as you might imagine, an instore that takes place in a venue outside of the record shop itself.

For our outstores, we use St. Peter's Church and Marlborough College's Memorial Hall in town here and, for bigger audiences, The Civic in Trowbridge. It will be signposted which venue the event takes place in, but please double-check before you make your purchase.

Again, you can expect an intimate stripped-back performance primarily showcasing songs from the album the artist is there to promote. Occasionally, there may be a Q&A or chat element to these, but we will highlight that. We won't know exact set length or duration in advance, but they typically range around a 40-45min performance, slightly longer for an event with a Q&A/conversation component. The event time stated will be the performance time, so please arrive promptly. Tickets will display the doors time, usually 30-45 minutes before the performance.

There is a ticket cost for these events. We have to make standalone tickets available, but you can also purchase specially priced "album & ticket bundles" containing one copy of the artist's forthcoming album on CD or vinyl and a ticket to the event. We'd ask you to consider supporting the artist and us by buying the physical product bundles where possible- it's better value for you and will help us to deliver these exclusive events to you in future. Standalone tickets are limited to one per basket, but you can purchase as many physical bundles as you like.

Tickets

In purchasing an album & ticket bundle for one of our events, you are being charged for the full cost of the relevant album and then receiving a discounted ticket price. Once wristbands have been issued, they are the responsibility of the holder and we cannot replace them if they are lost.

Age restrictions differ by event and venue, so please refer to the relevant event page. Security may ask for proof of age on the night, where restrictions apply.

Staying informed about any postponement or cancellation is the responsibility of the ticket holder. We will provide general notification on this website and via our social media platforms, and we'll also contact you via email if you've provided an email address. In the event that you cannot attend a rescheduled date, you'll need to notify us at least seven days before the new date of the event. If you request a refund, any tickets/bundles already in your care must be returned to us prior to the event.

Tickets are otherwise non-refundable. For further returns/refunds information pertaining to event purchases. please refer to the refunds for album & ticket bundles section of our refund policy.

We do not have any liability to you beyond the face value of the ticket/bundle. We can't be held liable for any further loss or failure caused by a force majeure event. Force majeure means any cause beyond our reasonable control. We also cannot be held responsible for tickets purchased from third parties- individuals or resale sites.

Tickets themselves need to be collected from the shop or at the venue when doors open. Please have your order number/confirmation email to hand. If you pay for postage, this will be for the relevant album which will arrive on/around its release day (please consult the individual event page for details).

Tickets for events at The Civic, Trowbridge will be QR codes emailed out by their box office to the email address provided when you placed your order, so please ensure you enter your email address correctly. If you do not receive your order confirmation (please check junk/spam folders etc.) please contact us at the earliest opportunity

Access Requirements

We endeavour to make provision for customers whose mobility or other access requirements may impact their ability to attend events. The Mem Hall and The Civic have dedicated step-free access and a limited number of wheelchair spaces. We factor in requests for accessible tickets, but there is a limit on the number of accessible spaces we can offer at our events, to remain compliant with health, safety, and fire regulations. If you have proof of eligibility and no accessible space is available, you will be offered a full refund on your ticket purchase.

It's very unlikely we will be able to fulfil requests made close to/on the day of a show. To avoid disappointment, please make your request for access arrangements by email to sales@sound-knowledge.co.uk immediately after placing your order. Please forward your order confirmation along with contact details and one of the following proofs of eligibility:

  • Access Card
  • Any level of DLA for care / mobility (front page of letter, no more than 12 months old or showing current valid date)
  • Receipt of PIP (front page of letter, no more than 12 months old or showing current valid date)
  • A personal letter from a GP, community nurse, social worker or a consultation letter that states the individual has a long term impairment or ‘disability' and requires assistance

A brief description of your requirements (it's not necessary to disclose your condition) or the symbols on your Access Card will help us to ensure the venue has provision in place for you.

PA Tickets

We can provide one personal assistant (PA) ticket free of charge to customers who are unable to attend an event without assistance.

By accepting this PA ticket, a PA accepts responsibility for providing the support required by the access customer in order to attend the event. This includes being able to provide additional assistance with moving around, using facilities, and during the course of an emergency evacuation.

Staff at an event will be unable to provide assistance beyond their usual role and general reasonable adjustments, so it’s vital that, should a customer require assistance while at the venue, their PA is ready and able to provide this.

To request a PA ticket, please place an order for the number of paid tickets/bundles your require and then forward your order confirmation to sales@sound-knowledge.co.uk along with one of the following proofs of eligibility:

  • Access Card displaying a +1 symbol
  • Middle or higher rate of DLA for care / mobility (front page of letter, no more than 12 months old or showing current valid date). Lower rate DLA is accepted if you are only applying for access facilities, as above.
  • Receipt of PIP (front page of letter, no more than 12 months old or showing current valid date)
  • A personal letter from a GP, community nurse, social worker or a consultation letter that states the individual has a long term impairment or ‘disability' and requires assistance

Tickets are not refundable - we do not provide refunds for standard tickets purchased which are then requested to be swapped to a free PA ticket. However, if you have proof of eligibility and we cannot accommodate an additional PA ticket for the reasons outlined in the "access requirements" section, you will be offered a full refund on your original ticket purchase.
