New Release Round-Up 6th August 2021

Out Today

Bombay Bicycle Club's Jack Steadman returns in his beatmaking guise as Mr Jukes and finds a perfect foil in the form of rapper Barney Artist. On 'The Locket' the Forest Gate MC, a fixture of London's jazz and neo-soul scene who's collaborated with Tom Misch, Jordan Rakei and Alfa Mist, spins cautionary industry tales, reference-heavy hymns of self-confidence and even wistful autobiography over Steadman's chilled, jazzy hip-hop instrumentals and woozy pop compositions, the pair evoking the joyful exuberance and loose, knockabout feel of Tribe or De La Soul.

Nathaniel Rateliff's 2020 concert at the legendary Red Rocks amphitheatre as part of the 'And It's Still Alright' tour is issued on 'translucent black ice vinyl' following the CD release last month. Drive-By Truckers issued their 2006 Plan 9 Records set as a limited piece for Black Friday last year, it's now generally available with brand new artwork from longtime collaborator Wes Freed on double-CD and triple-vinyl (including an indies green pressing).

There's a vinyl release for Jackson Browne's 'Downhill From Everywhere'. Here's what we said upon its release on CD: "the singer-songwriter enlists session greats like Russ Kunkel and Greg Leisz as he balances the personal and the political on an album which takes in the folk-rock of his 70s heyday, Stonesy stompers and tasteful Latin and Caribbean influences, while Elvis Costello's Attractions rhythm section drives catchy single 'My Cleveland Heart'"

'Release Me 2' collects 10 previously unreleased songs from Barbra Streisand's personal vault, including duets with Barry Gibb, Willie Nelson and Kermit the Frog, plus there's are new album from Anglo-Italian rockers (and former SK visitors) Mercutio 'Antagonist' with new vocalist Ross William Wild.

Reissues

It's box set city on the reissues front. George Harrison's classic 'All Things Must Pass' receives a '50th Anniversary Edition' exec produced by the late Beatle's son Dhani, with new stereo mixes. The deluxe 3CD and 5LP sets feature previously unreleased outtakes and jams, while the super deluxe 8LP and 5CD+Blu-Ray sets contain all that and more. 2CD, 3CD and 3LP sets can be purchased on the website, but if you're interested in any of the bigger sets then get in touch with us.

The 10th anniversary of LCD Soundsystem's epic "farewell" concert (little did we know back then that they'd be back six years later with the excellent 'american dream') 'The Long Goodbye' is marked with 3CD and 5LP re-presses.

Brian May's debut solo album 'Back To The Light' is reissued for the first time since its original release, with deluxe versions containing previously unreleased archive material.

Pre-Orders

Up for pre-order today is an anniversary edition of 'A Brighter Beat', the third solo album from Arab Strap's Malcolm Middleton. We've still got some of the Dinked Edition featuring an exclusive David Shrigley designed sleeve.

Ty Segall is back with a first album in two years (absolute aeons in the Segall/Oh Sees/King Gizzard-iverse). 'Harmonizer' promises a "synthasm of production redesign", dialling up the keyboard component of the garage rocker's sound.

Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga announced the follow-up to their hit collaboration 'Cheek To Cheek'. 'Love For Sale' is a celebration of the Cole Porter songbook.

A couple of heavyweight pop debuts heading your way in the form of just-announced albums from Billie Eilish's bro FINNEAS and vocalist Joy Crookes.
