New Release Round-Up 10th September 2021.

Out Today

MANIC STREET PREACHERS 'The Ultra Vivid Lament' sees the trio drawing inspiration from the record collections of their formative years, which perhaps explains the mixture of layered pop bombast and melancholic nostalgia on display. Mark Lanegan guests, as does Sunflower Bean vocalist Julia Cumming. Alongside standard formats, there's a deluxe CD hardbook and an indies vinyl with an exclusive 7".

MATTHEW E. WHITE has spent the six years since the release of his last solo album collaborating with Flo Morrissey and Lonnie Holley, and producing brilliant albums for the likes of Natalie Prass and Andy Jenkins for his Spacebomb label. His new record 'K Bay', named after his home studio, saw White lay down tracks with some Spacebomb usual suspects before using those recordings as a guide for sessions with a larger (Miles Davis 'On The Corner'-inspired) ensemble. The result is a thrilling album unlike anything in the White canon so far, propelled by deeply funky bass and drums, erupting into orchestral suites, Beach Boys vocal harmonies and 80s automatic disco, sometimes within the space of the same track.

LOW's 'HEY WHAT' is the thirteenth album from the band (now down to husband-and-wife duo Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker, following the departure of bassist Steve Garrington) and their third collaboration with producer BJ Burton. Much like previous record 'Double Negative', moments of striking beauty emerge from bracing blizzards of noise. Another very strong statement from a band still able to surprise nearly three decades in.

SAINT ETIENNE's 'I've Been Trying To Tell You' takes a hauntologically inspired view at the possibly misremembered Cool Britannia era with the trio's trademark blend of samples, field recordings and synth pop on CD and indies clear vinyl.

Raucous Aussie punks AMYL AND THE SNIFFERS release their sophomore record 'Comfort To Me' on CD and indies "Romer Red" vinyl. plus there are new albums from THE STRANGLERS, ERIC BIBB, FOY VANCE, THE BEVIS FROND and there are vinyl issues of the latest albums from KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARDMODEST MOUSE and THE WILDHEARTS, and live albums from PAT METHENY, JEAN-MICHEL JARRE and RUFUS WAINWRIGHT (drawing on last year's excellent 'Unfollow The Rules'). Also out today are new albums from KACEY MUSGRAVES and THE VACCINES. They're on their way to us but deliveries seem to be a bit hit-and-miss at the moment.

Reissues

METALLICA's reissue campaign reaches the iconic 'Black Album' with deluxe CD and vinyl reissues and a super deluxe box set (message us if you're interested in that). SPIRITUALIZED's arrives at the breakthrough 'Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space' (last couple of "Neptune Blue" vinyl available). There's a vinyl reissue of ELVIS COSTELLO's 'This Year's Model', alongside a Spanish language covers project featuring the likes of Luis Fonsi and Juanes 'Spanish Model'.
