New Release Round-Up 19th November 2021

Out Now

It probably won't have passed you by that there is a brand new ADELE album out. '30' picks through the wreckage of a divorce with a hard-won maturity and features the massive comeback single 'Easy On Me'. Available on CD and double-vinyl with a clear wax variant exclusive to record shops like ourselves.

ELBOW's 'Flying Dream 1' was recorded in an empty Brighton Theatre Royal which may account for the sense of space and hushed reverence that the Manchester stalwarts afford the album's chamber-like arrangements. There's a green indies vinyl for this one.

ROBERT PLANT & ALISON KRAUSS reteam for a sequel to 2007's excellent 'Raising Sand'. 'Raise The Roof' features the pair interpreting songs from The Everly Brothers, Bert Jansch, Calexico and Allen Toussaint among others with producer T-Bone Burnett once again at the helm. CD and vinyl are in stock, the indies yellow vinyl has been delayed until 3rd December.

'Deciphering the Message' sees drummer/beatmaker MAKAYA MCCRAVEN, like Madlib before him, let loose on the Blue Note vaults. As with his acclaimed reworking of Gil Scott-Heron's final album, McCraven organically blends samples from the original artists with newly recorded work from frequent collaborators like Junius Paul and Jeff Parker.

'The Bridge' showcases STING's enduring interest in cultural fusion and melody on an album recorded in his home studio during lockdown. Longtime collaborators like Dominic Miller and Manu Katche provided long-distance contributions while the strain put on mental health by the turbulent conditions of the pandemic is evidenced by recurrent lyrical themes and the occasional clunking couplet. Standard and deluxe options on both CD and vinyl for this one.

JOOLS HOLLAND enlists an all-star cast for the Nitin Sawhney produced 'Pianola. PIANO & FRIENDS' including David Gilmour, Joe Bonamassa and Gregory Porter, TWENTY ONE PILOTS' latest 'Scaled & Icy' gets a vinyl issue, plus there are new albums from SETH LAKEMAN and THE DARKNESS and two new releases on Ryley Walker's Husky Pants label: LUGGAGE's 'Happiness' and Walker's own duet with fellow Chicago guitar legend DAVID GRUBBS.

'This New Heaven', the debut from Frankie Rose/Matthew Hord duo FINE PLACE, is that rarest of things: a Dinked Edition still available to order! While standard versions are available of SOLD OUT Dinkeds from Tunisian multi-instrumentalist HOUEIDA HEDFI and Leeds synthpop trio PEAKES, and can be pre-ordered for next year in the case of 'La Planète Sauvage', STEALING SHEEP's unique collaboration with THE RADIOPHONIC WORKSHOP.

Reissues

'The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concert' captures a set from BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & THE E STREET BAND for the MUSE (Musicians United for Safe Energy) event organised by the likes of Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt on 2LP or 2CD/DVD, 2CD/Blu-ray sets.

A similarly legendary live performance is also released today as OASIS 'Knebworth 1996' is issued on CD, 2CD+DVD and 3LP sets, to tie in with the feature-length documentary of the same name.

There's a career-spanning retrospective from JAMES BLUNT 'The Stars Beneath My Feet', a 10th anniversary vinyl edition of DAWES' modern West Coast classic 'Nothing Is Wrong', an expanded version of JAMIE CULLUM's 'The Pianoman At Christmas' and reissues of PAUL WELLER's 'Illuminations' and KISS's 'Destroyer'.

Pre-orders

We're still taking pre-orders for a trio of aces Dinked Editions this week: Joe came back from End of the Road this year raving about a set from KEELEY FORSYTH and we're delighted to be offering her new album 'Limbs' on exclusive oxblood vinyl; 'See Through You' is the first album from the rebooted lineup of New York noiseniks A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS; and 'I'm Not Sorry, I Was Just Being Me' is the debut from hotly tipped Liverpool duo KING HANNAH.

Elsewhere, there are brand new albums on the way in 2022 from ANIMAL COLLECTIVE, BIG THIEFMATTIEL and, announced just as this was going to print, LOOP!
